It is a truism to say that a Christian is an individual who has been chosen, called, justified (declared not guilty of any sin) and made a child of God all as an act of His grace (romans 8:29,30). However, that is not the complete picture. A Christian is also a person who is saved and an individual certainly, but in order to become part of a people, indeed to form a community the ‘new humanity’ the apostle Paul talks about in Ephesians 2:15. This ‘new humanity’ is made up of people who have been ‘Called to be Aliens’ in this world, the New Testament word for Alien (stranger in the NIV translation 1 Peter 1:1) means a ‘stranger who stays in a place only for a short time’.
Starting today and over the next few weeks in our Sunday talks we will be looking at what it means to be one of those whom God has ‘Called to be Aliens’.
